New to all this? These four cover the ground most people need before choosing a method.
- What is an e-wallet? — the three different things the word covers, and which you actually want.
- Are e-wallets safe in Australia? — what’s protected, what isn’t, and where the real risks sit.
- KYC and AUSTRAC, explained — why you get asked for ID, and what “registered” really means.
- Fees and speed, compared — how to read the real cost of moving money.
Choosing between methods
- E-wallet vs PayID — when a wallet beats the instant rails, and when it doesn’t.
- E-wallet vs credit card — protection, fees and where each one wins.

Our side-by-side comparison puts every method against the same set of attributes, and each method review carries the current numbers.
How these guides are checked
Every figure in these guides is computed from the same records that drive the reviews, so a rate cannot be right on one page and stale on another. Regulatory standing is read from the ASIC licensee dataset, the APRA register and the AUSTRAC Remittance Sector Register rather than from a provider’s marketing, and each method record carries the date it was last checked. Where a provider publishes nothing an Australian can reach, the guides say so instead of reprinting a figure from another market — which is why several tables here have rows reading “cannot be priced”. That is a finding about the provider, not a gap in the research.
General information about payment methods available in Australia. Not financial advice. Fees, limits and features change — verify current terms with the provider before acting.
